My investigation is centered around the question: How can the ineffable bond between twin sisters be conveyed? As a twin, I have long been frustrated with my inability to adequately explain to others the deep bond I experience as a twin. Contrastingly, while I may look like and share interests with my twin sister, I am not she. There is a tension between the shared identity that comes with being a twin and our individuality. Throughout my investigation, I heavily experimented in different mediums and layering two-dimensional works with 3D elements to aid in my attempt to capture the uncapturable. Much of my work follows a similar theme in that the base is an oil painting and then on top is an added layer whether that be a new medium or a 3D element. I have revised oil paintings with colored pencil and layered with plastic gems and embroidery thread to draw attention to specific parts of my composition which highlight my individuality or opposedly my shared identity. For example in Mirror, Mirror the two figures are painted in an identical manner. However, the plastic gems on the girls skirts which are different colors break up the mirroring and draws attention to individuality.
